Global Chief Legal Officer & Chief Compliance Officer
Mike Gershowitz brings more than 28 years of industry experience to Harrison Street Asset Management. As Partner and Global Chief Legal Officer and Chief Compliance Officer, Mike leads the firm’s legal, governance and regulatory functions across its global investment advisory platform. In this role, Mike is responsible for legal oversight of the firm’s investment funds, corporate activities, regulatory and compliance strategy and platform expansion.
Mike has been involved with Harrison Street since its inception, initially serving as the firm’s lead outside real estate counsel before joining the organization in a senior leadership role. Over the course of his career, he has developed deep experience advising real estate companies, investment managers and their funds on a variety of legal issues, including complex transactional, regulatory and organizational matters and the formation and operation of private investment funds.
Prior to joining Harrison Street, Mike was a partner at DLA Piper, where he advised clients on a wide range of real estate and finance matters. He continues to serve the firm as Senior Counsel.
Mike graduated from the University of Michigan with distinction and earned a J.D. from the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. He earned an MBA with high honors from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago as a recipient of DLA Piper’s Harry L. Rudnick business scholarship, and he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Real Estate at Booth.
